I started this blog shortly after being diagnosed with locally advanced breast cancer aged 37 to document my experiences and thoughts as a mum to two young children, medical doctor and previous cancer survivor.
I was diagnosed with advanced Burkitt's non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) in 2001 aged 16 and was cured just before sitting my GCSEs. My illness inspired me to study medicine and I qualified as a doctor in 2009. Despite having tumours on both my ovaries as a teenager, I was able to have three children: Emma, James and Zoe. James died shortly after his birth in 2019 having been diagnosed with a severe heart condition. At the time of my diagnosis in September 2022, Emma and Zoe were aged 7 and 2 years old, respectively.
I live in Berkshire with my husband, Richard, our daughters and two dogs. I work between here and Oxford with clinical interests in cardiology and genomics.
